Happy New Year! Reader,
A bumper email this week to start the year. Grab a coffee! And let's start with... driver fitness... 😉
You know that driver fitness is important. Not everyone wants to be an exercise addict though. Plus, balancing getting fit for motorsports with the rest of your life can be a real challenge.
Even when you can carve out a window to do fitness training, it can be unclear what workout you should do. There are endless training plans for sports like running or cycling. Few for racecar driving.
These are some strength training exercises that I've done and found are beneficial. I thought you might want to check them out too. In this weeks article I share this simple 7 step home workout programme (with a bonus 8th if you're keen!)
Learn The 7 Exercises Here |
The nice thing is that this workout can be achieved from the comfort of your own home and with minimal kit. The routine can also be completed in as little as 20 minutes which is one reason it might work for you too.
Interestingly, what has really surprised me is the extra feel I have in the steering. If you give it a go then let me know what you think. It should help your steering precision and smoothness.
Fitness can be your first step in '23 at staying ahead of the curve.

As you may know, I've spent the last year working on a new tyre tuning course. At the end of last year I sent the draft out to some people who really (really) know about tyres, to get their feedback and suggestions. Some of the responses have been amazing:
There are a few corrections to do, including some required improvements to the learning experience. However, its getting close and I honestly can't wait to see what you do with it. More info coming soon...

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to fill in the survey over Christmas. Here are the final results:
This shows a bit of a swing compared to the interim results I shared last week. Without you doing this I'd just be guessing and... well... that's just not me. There's a clear preference for suspension "stuff" and data "stuff", with driving faster a close third. Should be able to work with that! Thank you again.
Fastest Lap Simulator: You can totally nerd out on this simulation tool someone shared with me this week. I've not had a chance to play with it (#tyrecoursetofinish) but it looks great. If you do have a go, please let me know what you make of it...
Analysis Coach Pricing: If you're thinking of getting some driver coaching help, I've updated my 2023 pricing and made a few tweaks to the website. As you know I don't have much capacity for this but I love helping drivers. If you'd like my help to go faster this season, take a look and just let me know.
SamirAbid.com updated: Slight self promotion here, and I know its not motorsports, but did you know I consult with businesses on their data strategy too? If you're interested in my more corporate friendly life, take a quick scan (there are racing car pictures!) This stuff keeps the kids fed so I'm happy for any introductions...

Ahead of the Curve n This week: Testing on old tyres – Worth it or waste of time? Hello Reader, You might hear people in the paddock declare that testing on old tyres is a complete waste of time. But is it? This might be fine for them but what if you don't have an unlimited budget for tyres, care somewhat for the environment and/or find yourself restricted by series regulation? You know that new tyres will give you more grip and that they will perform differently. But will the information...
Ahead of the Curve This week: Understeer defined | Master Your Tyres update "ed" Two letters that I hope will change your relationship with understeer and oversteer for ever. As you well know Reader, these at two terms that get used with abandon in the paddock. Everyone has a strong view on what they mean. My concern, is that not everyone has the same view! Firstly, I totally acknowledge the simple versions that include seeing trees (or not!) and expletives (describing the front or back of...
Ahead of the Curve This week: Your prioritises | Mass effect on Accel | Updated How-to Ever get the feeling your car's job list seems never-ending, Reader?
