Simon started 99th and last on the grid. So far back, he was not even in the official start photo: Qualifying had been a disaster. Whilst Simon's team were fast, a seemingly impossible task lay ahead - it was going to be a very long 24 hours ... But Simon's day was about to get better. A lot better. The reason? Well, first they were able to make it through the field to 2nd. Already a great result. Then, going into the last few minutes of the 24 hour race, the leader realised they had got their refuelling calculations wrong. Their car did not have enough fuel to finish at racing speed. With a huge lead the leaders decided to chance it and stay out. It made for a Grandstand finish. They lost. Simon's team won - taking the lead on the very last lap!! If you'd like to see it, here is the last 10 minutes of the race. It is epic stuff with great commentary: (Simon is McAttack - 347. The video freezes momentarily with 2:27 to go but comes back ... just in time!) Simon and his team happen to be my friends. I was very happy to see them win in such dramatic style! The thing is Simon should never have had the chance to win. If their competitors had planned their refuelling better, Simon would have been a distant 2nd. Imagine how you would feel if this was you. Certain victory snatched from you. Not because of some event on track or some issue with your car. But because you didn't prepare as well as you could. You can see it in the losers faces. During the interviews they even say they would have taken 2nd at the beginning of the race. In the end 2nd felt like a complete failure for them. One they will remember every time they look at that cup ... Don't let this be you. Get your fuelling plan perfect every time instead. ––> Fuel Calculator [link] <–– Good luck staying ahead of the curve. Samir |

1,200+ free track maps (with turn-by-turn guidance) Hello Reader, Traditional track maps are great, but they only show you the corners. What you really want to know is how you should drive each one: For turn 2, should you apex early or late? At turn 5, when should you be aiming to get back on the power? Where should you position the car to be fastest through the turn 7, 8 and 9 sweepers? etc. etc. Which approach is fastest? It's not that you can't drive fast. It's that the fastest option...
This week: Testing on old tyres – Worth it or waste of time? Hello Reader, You might hear people in the paddock declare that testing on old tyres is a complete waste of time. But is it? This might be fine for them but what if you don't have an unlimited budget for tyres, care somewhat for the environment and/or find yourself restricted by series regulation? You know that new tyres will give you more grip and that they will perform differently. But will the information gathered on old tyres be...
Ahead of the Curve This week: Understeer defined | Master Your Tyres update "ed" Two letters that I hope will change your relationship with understeer and oversteer for ever. As you well know Reader, these at two terms that get used with abandon in the paddock. Everyone has a strong view on what they mean. My concern, is that not everyone has the same view! Firstly, I totally acknowledge the simple versions that include seeing trees (or not!) and expletives (describing the front or back of...
